Jules, Owner & Vice President
Julie A. Showalter, known to her friends as 'Jules' is Owner and President of Jules' Salty Grub & Island Pub. She is a long time Bald Head Island property owner and now full time resident. She was a stay-at-home mom for 14 years before venturing into the restaurant business. Before this endeavor she worked in marketing, public relations, educational and political fundraising, and also had a successful photography business. Jules holds a Bachelor's degree in political science from Wilson College and a Master's degree in communications from Shippensburg University. Her background has always been hospitality and connecting people together. She has never met a stranger. It was a natural fit to purchase 'MoJo's on the Harbor' and had always been a dream to be a business owner on BHI. Her family has volunteered at Old Baldy and the BHI Conservancy. Currently she serves on the Old Baldy Foundation Board and is an active member of the Bald Head Island Club and Shoals Club. Jules' vision for the Island is for it to continue to maintain its beauty and non-commercialism, to preserve the soul of the Island, a place where people come together to relax, engage in each other's company, and to enjoy the peace that Bald Head sustains and offers. It has always been her and her family's happy place and she hopes that will be reflected through her hospitality at 'Jules' Salty Grub & Island Pub' to be known as 'Jules''.
Jules is a 3X Ironman finisher, completing IM Wilmington 2016, IM Louisville 2017, and IM Arizona 2019 as well as a marathoner, half marathoner, avid tennis player, and a not-so-good golfer. She can often be seen on her boat, Pour Decision Chaser, running around the Island, riding her bike, beach combing for seashells, or assisting in a redneck golf cart tow. Jules' has 5 children: Jordan 31, Sophia Freshman at Ole Miss, Isaac 17, Lily 16, and Oliver 14. Jules is a cat lover and has 4 cats, and Chester the big grey one is often seen wondering the Harbour, and 2 dogs, Jolly (minibernadoodle), and Nacho (sheepadoodle).
