Jules, Owner & President
Julie A. Showalter, known to her friends as 'Jules' is Owner and President of Jules' Salty Grub & Island Pub to be known as Jules'. She is a long time Bald Head Island property owner and now full time resident. She was a stay-at-home mom for 14 years before venturing into the restaurant business. Before this endeavor she worked in marketing, public relations, educational and political fundraising, and also had a successful photography business. Jules holds a Bachelor's degree in political science from Wilson College and a Master's degree in communications from Shippensburg University. Her background has always been hospitality and connecting people together. She has never met a stranger. It was a natural fit to purchase 'MoJo's on the Harbor' and had always been a dream to be a business owner on BHI. Her family has volunteered at Old Baldy and the BHI Conservancy. Currently she serves on the Old Baldy Foundation Board, is on the board of trustees for the Village Chapel, and is an active member of the Bald Head Island and Shoals Clubs. Jules' vision for the Island is for it to continue to maintain its beauty and non-commercialism, to preserve the beauty of the Island, a place where people come together to relax, engage in each other's company, and to enjoy the peace and respite that Bald Head sustains and offers. It has always been her and her family's happy place and she hopes that will be reflected through her hospitality at Jules'.
Jules is a 3X Ironman finisher, completing IM Wilmington 2016, IM Louisville 2017, and IM Arizona 2019, as well as an avid marathoner, completing two Walt Disney Dopey Challenges consisting of multi-day runs totaling 48.6 miles, countless half marathons, an avid tennis player, and a not-so-good golfer. Recently she passed the US Coast Guard OUPV 6pack Captain's course and is a US Coast Guard licensed Captain. She can often be seen on her boat, Pour Decision Chaser, running around the Island, riding her bike, beach combing for seashells, or assisting in a redneck golf cart tow. Jules' has 5 children: Jordan, Sophia, Isaac, Lily and Oliver. Jules is a dog lover and has 3 dogs, Jolly (minibernadoodle), Nacho (sheepadoodle), and Birdie Boo (toy cavapoo), often seen enjoying a ride in the golf cart or assisting as First Mutts on a boat ride.
